Livingstone - Sunday 14th Feb

Another beautiful morning with both our camp guards asleep in their chairs at 5am. The missives have been bad so had given them some spray as they were getting bitten sitting outside all night.

Left Bushfront Camp about 8.30 for the short drive to the airfield for our morning helicopter flight. They do both ultra flight and helicopter flights from here. Don't think I would like to do the wind up rubber band ultralight one
Helicopter is more our style
So fortune for us being the only two passengers so both had window seats with Joey in the front
Off we set for the 30 minute flight over the falls, gorges and game park and you could see  the water spray as we took off- in peak flow periods the spray goes as high as the helicopters.

Good view of the bridge( the white shed in the middle is where I  bungee jumped  off yesterday
The island above is called Livingstone Island as he first viewed the falls from here in 1855. We are having a swim right at the falls you can see with the white water on the left hand side followed by breekie tomorrow morning.

Arrived at camp for brunch and then a quick break before we headed off at 11 to walk around the falls. First off we walked around the top to get another view of the Victoria Falls Bridge
Then it was down into the gorge to the Boiling Pot  which is the spot where water swirls due to the resistance of the rock to the erosive power of water thereby producing a back flow and upsurge of water as is the case with boiling water in a pot. It is the first and one of the narrowest points of Africa's 4th longest rivers after reaching a maximum width of 1.7kms.
It was hard going on the way back up with the heat and high hudimity- I suspect a thunder storm is on the way later.

We then made our way around to the main viewing area of to see the falls
It's pretty well wet by now

We were having a nice cool down with the spray hitting us from the falls. We then headed for the wettest bit and having to cross a bridge that connects the mountains together . lots of people had hired rain coats for the journey.
This is a view across to Zimbabwe side with very heavy mist

We got a real shower just before the heavens opened up and absolutely bucketed down so we made it back to the car like drowned rats for the short drive home by which time the rain had stopped and had cooled down the tempatures and hudimity .

A few hours to wait until all four of us got picked up for the Sunset River Crusie better known as the booze cruise as all grog is included in the price .We had ordered some shirts a few days before from some guys that come across from Zimbabwe so they were supposed to be here at 3pm for the handover but they were running late due to the rain so would catch up with than later or tomorrow.
The cruise left from river lodge
Amanda and Jan were getting settled in at the bar for a few gin and tonics as we disembarked
About 20 people on the afternoon cruise from 4.30 to 7.30pm with lots of other boats on the river doing the same.
We then started the boat gaming ride to spot some colourful birds that build their nests into the side of the riverbank

A small croc was making its way towards us
Then around a bend to come upon quite a few hippos
The sun started to set just before 7
Got home just before 8 to get a visit shortly thereafter by the shirt guys followed by a night cap then off to bed.
