Headed out the campsite at 8am for the lengthy check out process through the gate which shouldn't be that hard but is for no reason. Our drive today is to Aus which is 365kms and should see us get in at about 2.30pm
A few cars on the gravel road today ,mostly tourist hire cars with lots of holiday lodges dotted along the road as well.
Had to watch out for Oryx straying onto the road as these couple did
Came across a big herd with some of them scatting and running along the fence line which I clocked at doing 60km/per hour
Pulled into a township called Helmeringhausen at lunch time to stretch our legs and buy some ice,OJ and ice creams then pulled into a shady tree site just outside the town to have some lunch
The town of Aus was formally the site of a prisoner of war camp established b y the South African army in 1915 to house German inmates captured in WW1.The number of prisoners reached 1500 but by May 1919 the last inmates left and the camp closed.
The area west of Aus is noted for its herd of about 200 feral horses living in the desert which have adapted to the harsh conditions.
Drove back to the Camsite about 5.30 which is about 2 kms away from the pool and reception area to settle down to a refreshing drink in the very windy conditions whilst using the cars as wind breaks
With Amanda providing them with an afternoon feed of bread
Followed by a meal of BBQ lamb chops and pork fillet for dinner over another bottle of splattered toad followed by an intruder that Jan had spotted in the darkness - you wouldn't want to be bitten by these scorpions
