Springbokwasser Campsite to Swakopmund - Friday 26th Feb

Drove out of the campsite at 7.30 and entered the Skelton Coast National Park for the 370kms drive which would take about 5 hours  we were camped at the red dot and would be going via Henties Bay
Driving through the national park the landscape was very mountainous with very few cars other than some rental 4wd
Out thought the gates of the national park
They also had a roadside stand of rocks and desert roses for sale

Then the turn off to Henties bay

And the drive turned into a sandy moonscape

The Skelton coast drive take you  past couple of old abandoned diamond mines , old oil rig

And we popped out shortly thereafter on the Atlantic Coast at the site of a ship wreck which had mostly vanished

We had now travelled from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean over the past 6 weeks( the below map shows the complete 8 week leg we are doing)
Next stop was at Cape Cross to view the seal colony of roughly 160,000 seals with lots of baby seals after their mating season. There was wall to wall seals everywhere
Here's one that was on the walkway that started to chase Joey

Not much room here for the tourist to have lunch
Whilst we were walking around the viewing platforms Jan was fixing another flat tyre on Steph

Given the salt flat roads the road side stalls were selling salt crystals as one of the main industries along the coast is salt manufacturing.
We made another stop at a recent ship wreck  few years ago
whilst Jan fuelled up his car and Amanda bargained with the local gem sellers who  were selling sapphires and other precious gem stones - she unfortunately passed up this great opportunity from  the guys who emerged from the dunes when we pulled up and apparently had the best diamonds and gems for sale in the country at the best prices( one of the main warnings you get as a tourist in Namibia is to avoid buying diamonds and other gems )
Lobbed into Swakopmund about mid afternoon to first hit the activity centre and book sand boarding in the dunes for Sunday then checked into our Dunedin Motel for the next 3 nights .A quick visit to the supermarket and then Jo booked dinner at  the Jetty Restaurant for a sunset dinners over the Atlantic Ocean
With a great seafood dinner
Then a short 10minute walk home to bed
